Presentation
This time we are in the real heart of the Austrian Alps, where the
three provinces, Carinthia, Salzburg and Tyrol, are next to each other.
This area is the highest point of Austria with the Grossglockner (3797
meters) and with the biggest glacier of Austria, the Pasterze which is
just below the Grossglockner. |
The
Grossglockner (3797 m), left, the Johannisberg (3453 m), right, and the
glacier of Pasterze is the bottom of the valley. Note that the glacier
is divided in two parts: the white ice coming from the white Johannisberg
and the the black ice coming from the Grossglockner. The black part is
in fact composed of ice recovered by stones felt from the peaks. On the
right, the top station of the funicular.
