Technical informations
The Panoramics are two parallel and independent funiculars.
They are completely automatic and are used 24h/24h.
The South funicular (A) links the car park « Parking Sous Bie » to the rampart.
The North funicular (B) links the car park « Parking des Marronniers » to the rampart with a
optional stop at the « Parking Sous Bie ».
Each incline is a single track with one cabin mounted on four flat wheels rolling on flat bands.
In the center on the track there is one inverted T rail which function is to guide the cabin.
Under the cabin two pairs of jaws are used to squeeze the rail in case of emergency.
The cabin is pulled by three parallel cables which pass around the pulleys at the top and at the
bottom of the track.
At the « Parking Sous Bie », under the tracks is a small office used for the maintenance and the
electronic of the lifts. Behind this office, in opened air, is the place for the engines (one per funicular).
The particularity is that it is the weight of the engine which regulate the tension of the cables.
At the « Parking Sous Bie » stop, each incline has an anemometer. It controls that the speed of the
wind is not greater than 11 meters per second. If so, when the cabin is at a station, the cabin is
locked during 3 minutes, if the speed of the wind is always too fast the cabin waits 3 more minutes etc.
