Funiculars of Switzerland

Amsteg - Arniberg

(photo Michel Azéma 7 April 2003)
Description

There are two hydroelectric power stations in Amsteg, the KWA Kraftwerk Amsteg on the right side of the Reuss river, owned by the Federal railways (see Amsteg-Bristen funicular) and the EWA Elektrizitätswerk Altdorf located on the left side of the Reuss river.

The EWA power station uses the water which is collected by the Arnisee lake (altitude 1370m). A one track funicular inclined plane follows the pipelines and the Arniberg mountain profile during about two kilometers!

At the EWA power station the bottom of the track continues horizontally for about a hundred meters and ends with two sidings where are parked two trailers of the funiculars, one flat trailer and one inclined trailer.
