Things are stirring in the Bernese Jura!
Ligerz - Tessenberg Bahn
The funicular
A single track funicular pulled by a winch... same technology as Saint Imier.
I took these photos on 22nd May 2004, the opening day.
Like in Saint Imier - Mont Soleil, the new funicular is composed of a single track with no passing loop anymore, a single new car instead of two, a new power system based on a winch, the bottom and top station are unchanged. At the bottom station, a small elevator was installed to facilitate the access to the car for persons with motor disability.

waiting queue. On the right, the small elevator for wheelchairs. |
Fortunately I had the opportunity to notice that the swallows were back and present during the opening day despite of the crowd! They built a new nest above the crane inside the bottom station... with two fledglings! See Funimag20...!
The car arriving at the
Pilgerweg stop.
This course was a special course, the car was transporting people for a wedding at the church of Ligerz. |
The line is composed of
two on-demand stops: Pilgerweg with access to the church, Festi.

The site of the old passing
loop. One half of the
passing loop was removed, that is the reason of this curiosity!
