Cairn
Gorm mountain (1245 m) is one of the highest points in Scotland.
It is located in the Highlands near Aviemore, the main resort
of the Cairngorms area.
Ski
area
Here
is the ski area map. I drew the funicular line in black directly
onto the map. In fact the main chair lift, built in the sixties,
does not exist any more, it was replaced by the funicular.
Profile
of the line
There
are four stops on the line:
• The top station: Ptarmigan (altitude 1100m)
• An intermediate stop for the Shop and Mountain exhibition;
located just below the top station. It will be use as end station
for the visitors going uphill, to 'force' them to pass thru
the exhibition room and the shopping center!
• The Shieling intermediate station (altitude 760m) is
used to allow skiers to use the funicular at the middle of the
slope.
• The base station: Day Lodge (altitude 610m)
Note that there is a 250m-long tunnel at the summit. In fact
it is not a real tunnel but a covered trench .
