The 'red' new carriage (#2) on the iron viaduct arriving at the bottom station.
Profile of the new carriage.
The bottom of the carriage is arranged as a panoramic compartment which is composed of 12 seats all directed to the bottom. From this compartment the passengers enjoy a panoramic view to the town of Biel.
The top compartment is reserved for the conductor.

This drawing shows the 'red' carriage (#2) with red bottom and white top.
The second carriage is the 'white' carriage (#1) with inverted colors, white bottom and red top.

The conductor's compartment with its touch screen.
The control panel is directed to the bottom the conductor can supervise the interior of the carriage from its seat. There is no second control compartment at the bottom of the carriage.

Wheelchair accessibility

The new funicular Biel-Magglingen was specially designed to be accessible by persons on wheelchair.

At the bottom station a vertical lift was built. There are 3 floors:
1) ground floor,
2) station and
3) carriage.

The third floor of the lift is at the same level as the fourth compartment of the carriage. The door of this compartment is equipped with a retractable step which reduces the interval between the carriage and the platform (see photo right).

The carriage must stop precisely with the fourth compartment and the lift platform at the same level !

To solve this problem the carriage must stop on the buffers at the bottom of the track (see photo below).
